Make your own volunteer opportunity

Sometimes hobbies can turn into volunteering. For example, if your hobby is photography, we would love to have a photographer at our social events. You get a chance to take photos and the league is able to capture the joy and excitement of our members at our events.

If you have a special skill that you would like to share with the league or you are interested in volunteering, email us at westmeadowlark@gmail.com.

What do you get out of volunteering?

Ask a volunteer why they volunteer and you’ll get a range of answers. Some will say they enjoy giving back or they like meeting people at social events. But what they don’t realize is that by being a volunteer you are learning powerful skills that you can transfer to future employment. For example, the Social Director may just be planning a party but what she may not realize is that she is learning organizational skills, managerial skills, creativity skills and so much more. The Treasurer is learning accounting skills, the President is learning leadership skills and the list goes on.

Gain Real Life Work Experience

Being part of a Community League Board is a great way for a stay-at-home mom or dad to gain work experience before they goes back to the workforce. And someone who may be in between jobs may want to donate their time to fill the gap in their resume.

Student Volunteer Hours

A student may want to learn more about accounting or event planning before they enter that field. Or, they may want to get volunteer experience while they are in school. Future employers encourage volunteerism.

Whatever your reason for volunteering just remember that valuable skills will result from it.
